The staff were more than helpfull, we had a problem about meds; and they aranged a chemist in Birr to stay open till 6/30p.M. The clay pigon shooting was very good, and the mountains near the castle, the suites were the bizz.
The only fault I have as a smoker was the area outside the main door, a smoking area with a bit of heat would be great.
The Castle itself and the furnishings were beautiful. The paintings and game hanging was great. The bedroom was comfortable, and the book room pub was very relaxing upon arrival.
Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent. We paid for a "Delux Suite" room, however we felt that we were given a standard room which was nowhere near the size advertised. We were in the top floor of the castle which was very musty and the room was dusty. The hallway outside our room was wet from a leak in the roof. We would advise to check your room on arrival and ask to be moved if not satisfied. We have stayed in a number of castles throughout Ireland. We would not give a 4 star rating to this hotel
Staff and food
Hotel could really do with a total refurbishment. carpets very worn and dirty in public areas.cobwebs with spiders in bathroom.
The service was really good and felt that they created a very warm atmosphere. Would definitely recommend going.
I enjoyed everything
The building, history & location, and excellent food.
The location was good as it was quiet and relaxing.
To be expected it is a drafty old castle.
Friendly Reception and Breakfast staff Full of History and Charm Food was excellent
Large rooms, beautiful decor, antique furniture and olde world charm.
Lovely relaxed atmospheer, and freindly staff, made our stay very enjoyable. And it was a bonus to have the sunshine on the morning of our departure.a stroll in the grounds after a very nice breakfast left us feeling very happy as we drove down the beautiful drive and back to the hustle bustle of everyday life!
Everything! I have dreamed of staying in a castle since I was a little girl, and Kinnitty Castle Hotel lived up to those expectations. Our room (up 57 stairs, which we didn't mind at all) was enormous and so was the bed (two king-sized mattresses). The view from our window was gorgeous, the bathroom luxurious, and just everything a castle stay should be. The dinner (25 euro per person) was perfectly served and delicious, definitely a great value, and the price of our room was also a great value, when compared to prices at other castle hotels. Wi-fi was available in public rooms on the ground floor, but we didn't miss it upstairs. The hotel itself is beautiful and grand, and the staff were ever so friendly and helpful. We went for a long walk through the forest, which I would encourage all visitors to do. The bathtub was huge and I took a long, hot soak, which was divine. Breakfast was excellent, too. I wish I could have stayed there for a week instead of one night.
My husband, who isn't a bath man, didn't like the shower because there was little water pressure and hot water was inconsistent. I took a bath, so I didn't notice so much. I can't imagine how they would get hot water up to our floor in such an ancient building, so in my book, they don't lose any points for this. Take a bath, and you'll love it.
We wanted to stay in a castle, and we did. Our room really reflected the castle, old-world vibe.
We were on the third floor and had to carry our bags up several flights. This property has modern add-ons in other areas and needs to find a way to add an elevator.
The fact that it is indeed a castle, rooms are amazing, great value. A bit out of the way, but well worth it.
The location, but recommend the drive thru Slieve Bloom mountains, if coming from Dublin
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals were excellent
Breakfast was not on par with evening meals. Dissappointed
We had the Seret room which was lovely, very spacious and clean. Breakfast was good on Sat morning, Sunday was a different chef and wasn't great! The castle grounds as well as the surrounding areas were beautiful and a great location for walking, sightseeing, history etc.
